After cooling down in the creek and getting slightly more wet than we anticipated, we began our drive home. Not quite ready to head back to our abode, we decide to take the back roads and came across John Boyd Thatcher State Park. Hubby, couldn't resist...we pulled in, paid the $6 vehicle entry fee and continued on the adventure. Mind you, we were quite unprepared. We decided to hike the Indian Ladder Trails...did I happen to mention we were unprepared? The children were very thirsty right off the bat so we tried to buy a few bottles of water from a vending machine which was conviently placed at the start of the trails. Well, I'm thinking everyone else wasn't prepared because both vending machines were completely empty.
Then Hubby remembered we had a gallon of water in our vehicle that was from a very recent school event. The hero and manly man that he is, graciously carried that gallon of water the entire 3.5 miles. There was no way he was going to allow his family to become parched or end this much needed adventure.
And so we began..

There were several caves but not many we could explore.

Nature created this perfect resting place for a quick drink of water. By this point the gallon of water became 1/2 a gallon. It's a good thing Hubby remembered we had it.
It was this trip we realized, Wolfgang, may be afraid of heights. He worried the entire time, one of us might fall off the cliff (I have to admit, I was concerned as well). "But what is he looking at?", you may be wondering.

This beautiful waterfall. There were two throughout this hike and we were able to walk under both of them.

I was able to take this photo while in one of the caves.

Bella couldn't resist getting wet just one more time.

Wolfie, made a friend and quickly said, goodbye.

Bella, found a stone with clay on it and felt the need to leave her mark.

I love how calm Henry is here. He embraced this entire adventure, making this part of it his absolute favorite. Henry, wanted to keep going even when Wolfie wanted to turn back.

We finally reached Cliff Top.

...and found our trail back to our vehicle.

As I mentioned earlier, this was a much needed adventure and I look forward to more this summer. Everyone was starving so we made one last stop at Salsa Latina. A great place for a taste of my culture. When we got home we took a quick dip in the pool and yes, everyone slept VERY WELL.
