Book Club

 

The other night Bella and I went to our very first Mother-Daughter Book Club.  This club was created by a few friends from Bella's previous school and they were so wonderful to invite us to join.  The club includes 8 moms and about 14 girls between the ages of 8-11.  It's wonderful to see young girls share a love for reading.

Our first meeting was just to figure out the logistics of it all and after much brainstorming we compiled a list of wonderful books to choose from each month.  The person hosting the next meeting chooses two books from the list, then we take a vote as a group. We decided our first book will be Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes.  This book is said to be a story written with sympathy, humor and understanding.  Ginger Pye is being held for us at our local library and we can't wait to pick it up to get started.  

I never realized mother-daughter book clubs existed and it got me thinking about how many other clubs may be out there like this.  Then I thought it would be great to start a mother-son book club but it would have to be much smaller than this club.  I'm not sure how 14 boys would handle an hour of book discussion (CRAZY!).

What is Truth

 

The Meaning of Truth

No aim can be higher than that of seeking truth, and no reward can be greater than that of finding the truth.  In fact, it is now considered by everybody that the greatest virtue of all virtues is to have an intense and ceaseless desire for truth.  And the greatest good of all that is good is to realize a greater and greater measure of real truth.  The necessities of life are many, but there is nothing that man needs so much as more truth.  To possess the truth is to everything that we can use now, and also to possess the key to everything that we may require for the future.  The great objects of every normal person are invariably emancipation and attainment.  To be set free from the imperfect and the lesser and to attain the perfect and the greater - this is what everybody is consciously or unconsciously working for; and truth can accomplish this, but truth alone.  To know the truth is to secure complete emancipation; and to know the truth is to ascend into higher attainments.

Windy Bubbles

 

Henry, really wants spring to arrive.  He misses riding his bike, swinging on the swing and running around without a coat.  We attempted to blow bubbles out on the deck the other day but it was very cold.  I managed to snap some happy photos of him just before the cold took over.  The bubble blowing lasted about 10 minutes.   Maybe when the wind is not blowing so hard we'll try again.  

Anybody else out there dealing with cabin fever?  How are you coping?

Man lives to move forward. To move forward is to live more. To live more is to be more and do more; and it is being and doing that constitutes the path to happiness. The more you are and the more you do, the richer your life, the greater your joy. But being and doing must always live together as one. To try to be much and not try to do much, is to find life a barren waste. To try to do much and not try to be much, is to find life a burden too heavy and wearisome to bear. The being of much gives the necessary inspiration and the necessary power to the doing of much. The doing of much gives the necessary expression to the being of much. And it is the bringing forth of being through the act of doing that produces happiness that is happiness. Being much gives capacity for doing much. Doing much gives expression to the richest and the best that is within us. And the more we increase the richness of that which is within us, the more we increase our happiness, provided we increase, in the same proportion, the expression of that greater richness. A Little Optimism

 

Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. Make all your friends feel there is something special in them. Look at the sunny side of everything. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give everyone a smile. Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others. Juvenile Diabetes

Icky Days

 

The last week has been tough on our family.  We have been passing a very icky stomach virus to each other.  Bella, is now on round two, poor girl.  I really wish my Isamune was here a week ago.  I finally feel well enough to really take care of everyone. Papa is the only one (knock on wood) who has stayed healthy. It's either all the Echinacea and Goldenseal he's been taking or the fact that he spends a large part of the day at work, that keeps him from getting sick.  My family really needs me right now, so I may take a short break to get everyone back on a healthy routine, from food and activity to hugs and kisses.
